Triple Science:
GCSEs in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

What will I learn?
If you enjoy science you can achieve 3 GCSEs in science subjects. You can study all three Science subjects – Biology, Chemistry and Physics and achieve a GCSE in each one. To make this choice, you should be someone who enjoys finding out how things work and have a natural curiosity. You should also enjoy Science and be able to cope with the increased challenge that studying individual Sciences will bring. You will have 14 lessons of Science each fortnight.
What are the entry requirements?
Students should have a KS3 target level of Level 6b or higher and you must be achieving at least level 6 in all tests.
How will I be assessed?
In each subject, Biology, Chemistry and Physics you will do the same core modules in year 10 as the Dual award students. You will have more science lessons so will complete the second set of modules by Christmas in Year 11 and will be examined in January of year 11 with the final modules examined in June of Year 11. Coursework is 25% of each GCSE and will be assessed through Investigative Skills Assignments in each subject.
Future opportunities
It could be advantageous to study all three sciences if students are interested in careers in Medicine, Dentistry and other health care professions, Veterinary Medicine, Engineering, the Environment as well as further study in pure Sciences. It may just be that at this stage students have an interest and enjoy a challenge!
Due to the statutory nature of the Science core, students are required to study all three sciences as part of the core curriculum so we cannot offer a choice of individual Sciences. Students would have to study all three to GCSE level. If you decide Triple Science is for you, please opt for Science as one of your options in the option column.
Is there anything I need to know?
If you wish to study extra Science, please speak with your Science teachers or Mrs Warnett - Head of Science, Mrs Walker - Head of Chemistry or Mrs Brice - Head of Physics. We will be present at the Option Evening to answer any of your questions.
PLEASE NOTE: Students who are currently in the accelerated year 9 Science groups who have already started their GCSE course, need not opt for Triple Science as they automatically continue with their Triple Science studies.
