Dance - Drama
The Performing Arts course will involve practical work in drama and dance.
In Dance, students will learn the basics of choreography and will develop a range of skills. They will be given opportunities to create their own dance pieces incorporating a number of different dance styles, such as African, Indian, jazz, street and contemporary dance. Students will be introduced to professional dance works and begin to develop application and analysis skills. Students will be encouraged to share their finished dance performances with an audience, as far as possible, with other members of the same year group.
In Drama every student will be helped to develop skills in the use of the voice and in the creation of character. They will learn how to research ideas to produce pieces of original theatre as well as tackling script work. Most work will be in groups, sharing ideas and planning together.
There will be several opportunities to take part in after school activities to develop your dance and drama skills further. In July 2005 we produced the International Premiere performance of a play by a Malawian writer Mr Peatry Ntodwa called Kulira Kwa Gogo and in July 2007 the same company premiered the play Pilira. This year we will be producing 42nd Street as well as entering the Rock Challenge competition.
