Extended Schools
“An extended school is a school that recognises that it cannot work alone in helping children and young people to achieve their potential, and therefore decides to work in partnership with other agencies that have an interest in outcomes for children and young people, and with the local community. In doing so, it aims to help meet not only the school’s objectives but also to share in helping to meet the wider needs of children, young people, families and their community” — DfES 2004
“An Extended School will seek to provide, or host a range of activities and services designed to meet the needs of young people in the community and so encourage the inclusion of young people in all aspects of school and community life.” — Extended Schools Prospectus 2005
“At Driffield School we aim to deliver four “core services”, which will help to ensure that all children and young people have the opportunity to achieve the Every Child Matters outcomes: Be Healthy, Stay Safe, Enjoy & Achieve, Make a Positive Contribution and Achieve Economic Well-being.
Driffield School has been developing its Extended Services provision since April 2005. A full-time Extended Services Cluster Manager is based in the school and has responsibility for developing services across all the schools in the Driffield Cluster; this includes 13 rural primary schools, Driffield Junior School, Driffield Infant and Northfield Infant Schools and Kings Mill Special School. The ES Cluster Manager is supported by an Assistant ES Coordinator, who works predominantly with the rural primary schools, and an ES Admin Assistant.
Extended Services liaise with external agencies and organisations to ensure children, young people and, where appropriate, parents, families and the wider community are able to access the services they need, either on the school site, or by signposting them to other venues.
