Courses for Adult Learners
Driffield School’s Courses for the Community initiative, which is being developed using funding available through its designation as a Maths and Computing Specialist School, is an important part of the school’s aspiration to be at the centre of the community.
The aims of the initiative are to:
- Develop Driffield School as a Centre for Excellence for Community & Adult Learning to help address the identified regional skills shortages within local business, community groups and adult learners.
- Work with local training and adult education providers to identify gaps in the provision of adult education and develop a varied programme of accredited and non-accredited adult learning opportunities in the Driffield area.
A full range of courses from ICT, Maths GCSE and book-keeping to interior design, Spanish and jewellery-making (to name but a few) is offered each term.
We have built some excellent partnerships with local providers, including the East Riding Adult Education Service, the Workers’ Educational Association, East Riding College and St John Ambulance. We hope to continue improving and expanding the service we offer, so all learners in the Driffield area can access the learning opportunities they need.
The East Riding of Yorkshire Council Adult Education Service works in partnership with Driffield School to raise participation, achievement and personal fulfilment in learning and training. It provides access to a high quality service, which meets the knowledge and skills needs of the learner and the community.
The Service provides locally based provision, from non-accredited up to Level 5 accredited, primarily for 19+ adults, but with some provision for 16-18 year olds. The Service operates from 9 centres and delivers provision in 167 venues throughout the East Riding of Yorkshire.
For more information about the Service, or to find out about courses being offered in centres throughout the region, please contact one of our local offices: Bridlington: 01262 677500, Hornsea: 01964 533942.
