Mortimer House
Mortimer is located in the North Building together with Wilberforce House. Mortimer House is named after the famous archaeologist John Robert Mortimer. You can recognise our house by its distinctive logo and our house colour which is green. Our logo is very specal to us as it has been designed by Mortimer students. Each area of the shield is important in making Mortimer House what it is today. Our logo is currently undergoing 'refurbishment' but will shortly be shown on this website page.
A big hello from myself Mr Bemrose and the Mortimer team. I hope that you find this page useful and that you get to know more about the House team. On behalf of Mortimer I would like to wish you a very happy time at Driffield School and in Mortimer House.
Mortimer House has ten tutor groups which are located in rooms within the North Building and Performing Arts Biulding. Each tutor group consists of between 25-30 students aged between 11 and 16. Mortimer House is led by Mr M Bemrose, Head of House, whose office is located in the North Building. He is assisted by Miss T Hazell, House Tutor for Mortimer and Wilberforce and Mr G Martinson, House Leader for Mortimer and Wilberforce.

What We Do
In common with all other Houses in the school, the House Team (Mr Bemrose, Miss Hazell and Mr Martinson together with the form tutors) is responsible for overseeing the pastoral care of the students within the house. This includes oversight of the following for all Mortimer students:
- Attendance and truancy (working with the school attendance officer and educational welfare officer)
- Holiday requests
- Bullying issues
- Behaviour management (when this is an issue across more than one subject)
- Uniform compliance
- Implementation of the school smoking policy
- Monitoring of student progress within the school
- Any other pastoral issues which may affect the performance and general happiness of our students
Working With Students
We believe that it is important to give our students every opportunity to become involved in the decision making process and day to day management of the House. One of the key roles to be carried out by students within the house is that of House Ambassador. House Ambassadors are students who are excellent role models for their peers and take a leading role in helping the House Staff, particularly during tutor time. House Ambassadors are easily recognised by their green 'Ambassador' badges. We really appreciate the work that our ambassadors do, so much so that we try to ensure that they are rewarded for their work and efforts as often as we can. Students are also encouraged to help raise money for our charity, the Jali Youth Centre, in Malawi. To raise money for the Jali Youth Centre Mortimer students take part in sponsored swims, car wash, walks and silence to name but a few. All students' efforts have allowed money to be sent to Malawi to continue the excellent work at the Jali Youth Centre there.
Being Part of the 'Mighty' Mortimer Team
Mortimer is a friendly and dynamic House to be part of. We have fortnightly tasks, which are done in tutor times; these tasks are great for team building. For each task forms get marks out of ten, the winning form at the end of the year will win a special award. Mortimer students have spent their time making towers out of straws and making and presenting a 'rap' using only themselves to spell the word Mortimer. This is just a few of the many tasks students have done recently. Also, our students work hard together to do the best that they can in inter-house sports competitions. We even have our own inter-form football matches.
We are very proud of the achievements that Mortimer students make within school and out of school. We have many students who excel in a variety of different sports and activities and have competed regionally and nationally. A good Mortimer student is a student who contributes to both house and school life. All Mortimer students try their best at all times and treat staff and students with respect and friendship. Indeed there is not only more to Mortimer but there is also more to Mortimer students.
