Fawcett House

Welcome to Fawcett's web page. We're based in the West building, along with Bronte. We take our name from Benjamin Fawcett, a local printer and engraver; he was inspired by birds and plants.

Our logo, which is a combination of two Fawcett pupils designs, incorporates this nature theme. Our house colour is yellow, which we see as a positive and happy colour.

Hello, I’m Mrs Davey Head of Fawcett House. The Fawcett Team consists of Mr McDonald House leader for Bronte and Fawcett, Mr Johnson House Tutor for Fawcett and Bronte.

House Charity: Help for Heroes

Each year in Fawcett we select a House charity which we want to raise money for by holding a number of fund raising events. Each Form nominates a different charity, then every pupil in Fawcett House votes for the charity they would like us support this school year.

In previous years we have supported the Children of Chernobyl, they visited school in 2006 and we presented each child with a shoe box full of toys, pencils and sweets. In 2007 we sold daffodil bulbs to raise money for Marie Curie and we planted them outside West Building to create a Fawcett Field of Hope. In 2008 we raised £500 through a series of events including a sponsored swim, for the Wish upon a Star Charity.

The winner this year is Help the Heroes. One of our year 10 girls Nikkita has already raised over £100 through collecting loose change form staff and students. Thank you and well done Nikkita. F9 made a range of Christmas cards and sold them at lunchtimes.

We have a host of planned events coming up in the summer term. We will be dressing combat gear for Sports Day and are hoping to link with the Army for a day event. In addition to bag packing at the local supermarket and a sponsored swim. We’re aiming to raise more money than ever this year

I just wanted the opportunity to thank you and all your staff for making our daughter’s first year at Driffield School such a successful and enjoyable experience. I am writing to congratulate the Year 10 and Year 11 students who volunteered to take part in the mock interview process today which I was part of…. Students had taken time to do preparation work and the effort to look at the part of an interviewee. The students were a credit to the school and their parents. They were eloquent, enthusiastic and asked pertinent and searching questions of the interviewers.

I would just like to know how much I enjoyed Driffield School’s production of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. The singing, notably from pupils in the lead parts, was fabulous. The acting in every case was excellent as was the musical accompaniment from the orchestra. Well done to all involved for supporting and encouraging the students in this way.

On behalf of the President and members of Driffield Rotary Club, I write to thank the school for the cheque for £456.63, donated to go towards the cost of rebuilding the school in Sri Lanka destroyed by the Tsunami. It was very generous of the school’s Student Council to agreed to give the proceeds from the non-uniform in July to this very worthwhile project.

This is a very successful Sixth Form. Results for AS/A2 and AVCE examinations are well above average, maintaining a consistently positive trend. Students overall achievement and progress in the Sixth Form are very good; many achieve well beyond expectation.
