Positive Behaviour for Learning
This policy sets out the framework of the school’s approach to encouraging wanted behaviour known as Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBfL). It is expected that, particularly over the first year, agreed amendments will be made. At all times colleagues will be made aware of the changes. The routines and procedures will be adopted throughout the school from January 2007, with the January Training Day being dedicated to final preparations, and the plan being “taught” to students and parents during the second half of the autumn term.
The new framework builds upon the work of the Behaviour Working Group which operated last year and the Behaviour and Discipline Policies that the group produced which presented good practice and addressed identified areas of weaknesses. The framework should be successful in:
- Reducing staff workload through increased efficiency.
- Providing a much greater understanding of the discipline process for students, parents, teachers and governors.
- Ensuring that all students, regardless of ability, age and gender are involved in the process of praise, recognition and rewards.
- Supporting staff in the classroom. This will ensure that staff can get on with teaching students who want to learn and who demonstrate wanted behaviour. Furthermore, staff and students should no longer have to suffer constant low level disruption.
- Making the school a cleaner place.
